What is the «stem cell facelift» and is it effective? I have read about it on some blogs during my research process?
The stem cell facelift is a term coined for a relatively new procedure being done in some centers. While there is no objective scientific proof that the procedure is effective, the science behind it is very interesting. The idea is that fat liposuctioned from the belly is spun and that «stem cells» are removed from the fat. These «stem cells» are the cells that can develop into any other cell in the body. These stem cells are then injected into the face, in the same fashion as an autologous fat transfer. The idea is that these stem cells will signal the other fat cells in the face to «rejuvenate» the face by making certain changes. The patients face, including the skin and the underlying structures change towards a more youthful appearance. The stem cell facelift does not involve any actual surgery or lifting. This may provide another tool for surgeons to use to fight the aging process. Certainly, more research needs to be done in order to fully understand it advantages. I do not think it will ultimately replace the traditional facelift procedure, but may provide us for a temporizing procedure for some patients during the aging process.
